Only it came after Christmas! We welcome the cold as it keeps all our buds in bed until spring truly arrives. Had a couple of confused Lilacs here leafing out this December, but all should be ok now that the cold has arrived. Cheers to Winter! Hoping all our customers are having a great holiday season and looking forward to a new gardening year! We are closed until early April, but please contact us if there is anything we can help you with before then.

Summer is gearing up and we have plenty of shrubs, veggies perennials and container annuals for summer color. The weather is finally fine, and the soil is drying out. A great time to plant. We have some nice late booming lilacs available now. Also, through June 10, crabapple and birch trees are 25% off. Come on out and see us!

Well, the spring equinox is here, but really, all us gardeners are truly looking forward to warm spring showers, sun and flowers! We will be opening for the season on or around the 15th of April, though we of course will not have our full stock of annuals and other tender crops until May (it sometimes snows in April!) That is our "official" opening, However, we do have some lovely Helleborus blooming now in the greenhouse for sale, sorta an early bird...

I was thinking the other day of the colors of fall, and how we have such bright foliage and fruit color. The colors are all vivid reds, yellows and even some pinks. No one would argure that they are extremely vivid colors in the bright fall sunshine, yet somehow these bright colors all have a distinct earthy tone to them, far different than the bright reds and pink of our summer flowers.
We still have a great selection of shrubs and fall foliage interest here at the nursery.

Ornamental Peppers, we have them. They are a great addition to pots for the summer, to add color and literally SPICE to your containers or bed!. All of these varieties are edible, and most are hot, great for adding a touch of spice to your soup or stir fry.
Ornamental Peppers appreciate a sunny spot outside, and occasional fertilizer for the active summer growing season. It's possible to bring them in for the winter, if you have a warm and very sunny window.

As the pots and container gardens I've been planting have been filling in, the combinations that were in my head are now growing and combining and doing exactly what I had wanted! I'll be posting occasionally through the summer on these exciting combos. After all, it's all about color, and how color matches it's neighbor. Above we have the new Pretty Much Picasso Petunia, with its deep purple throat picking up the color of its neighbor, Tradescantia, a vining foliage plant. The feature of Pretty...

With Memorial Day weekend coming up, now is the traditional planting time for your vegetable garden. We have a wide selection of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes available in individual pots for sale. If you want to try only one of each kind, instead of having to buy a pack, come see us! We will have over 60 types! Some of my favorites are 'Sun Sugar', a hybrid yellow cherry tomato with the same sweetness as 'Sun Gold', but with more crack resistance. It's sweet as candy in the summer! Another favorite...

Peonies that is! Our rockii hybrids are finishing up blooming, and now we are on to the American hybrids, the Daphnis, Saunders, and Gratwick hybrids. They have been in bloom for us for a few days now in the gardens. I'm sure this will be busy weekend at Linwood Gardens Festival of Tree Peonies (www.linwoodgardens.org) With the predicted heat coming this week, I'm sure that this weekend and the following weekend will be the best weekends for viewing. If you're thinking of taking a trip to our...
